** ТЁМНАЯ НОЧЬ was written by composer Nikita Bogoslovsky (1913-2004) and poet Vladimir Agatov who wrote text on his music. MacFarland arranged this original cover/modern adaptation based on a variety of recordings popularized by Mark Bernes. MacFarland used many different translations of Agatov's original lyrics for this adaptation. As there were no prior english versions of this tune, he translated, and carefully paraphrased to make his own literation in attempts to pay homage to Agatov, and Barnes and maintain the integrity of Bogoslovsky's timeless composition.
** MANCHURIA is a original cover/modern adaptation arranged by C. MacFarland, Livingston, and Will based on the Russian Waltz "On the Hills of Manchuria" (На Сопках Маньчжрии) composed in 1906 by Ilya Alekseevich Shatrov. Just like ТЁМНАЯ НОЧЬ MacFarland used many recordings to transcribe , compose, and arrange this modern adaptation. As there were also no prior english versions of this tune, he translated, and carefully paraphrased to make his own literation in attempts to pay homage and maintain the integrity of Bogoslovsky's timeless composition.
